How can we help? / Representative Payee Program

What is the Representative Payee Program?

Financial Pathways provides services under the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) Representative Payee Program, which was created by the federal government to assist vulnerable recipients of Social Security benefits. Because these recipients face such issues as insecure living situations, mental illness, substance abuse, and developmental disabilities, the SSA has deemed them unfit to directly receive and manage funds. The SSA requires another person or organization to serve as ‘payee’ and manage the finances of these individuals.

How does the program work?

As Payee, Financial Pathways receives an individual’s SSA benefits on their behalf and pays their rent, utilities, and any of their other recurring expenses. We work face-to-face with clients to establish a budget and steward the use of any funds that may remain after monthly bills are paid. We also assist clients with other benefits programs, such as helping them apply for food stamps, Medicaid, housing, and making referrals and helping with paperwork for various needs.

Are we accepting new clients?

FPP is currently accepting new clients from all over the United States into the program. To get started, click to fill out an interactive online referral form or download and print the Representative Payee Referral Form, which can be faxed or mailed to:
