We are here to help seniors understand and manage their finances.

Our Senior Financial Care® (SFC) program works to help adults aged 60 and older improve the management of their finances so they can live independently and peacefully.

Many seniors face the difficult challenge of surviving on a fixed income at a time in life when they typically have increased health care expenses. Everyone over 60 years old is taken through a Benefits Checkup to ensure they are receiving all benefits they are eligible for.

Our trained and certified counselors specialize in helping senior citizens navigate the range of unique financial challenges they face.

If desired, other family members can attend these counseling sessions. Families often benefit from having an impartial third party assess the aging adult’s finances and clarify the situation for everyone affected.

Medical Insurance Counseling

Our trained counselors are certified by the North Carolina Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) to provide up-to-date counseling in Medicare, Medicaid, and Supplemental Insurance. They can also assist with tracking claims for coverage and payments and follow-up with providers.

Monthly Bill Pay and Bank Account Reconciliation

Our trained and certified counselors can partner with aging adults on an ongoing basis to write checks for monthly expenses, maintain and balance a check register, and reconcile bank statements. We’re also able to accommodate electronic bill pay. Although we cannot provide ongoing clerical support, we can help clients set up a well-organized system to manage financial paperwork.

Benefits Checkup

Many government programs support aging adults in a variety of ways. The benefits checkup helps ensure that aging adults are informed about any programs for which they may be eligible. A trained and certified counselor can offer information, guidance, and advice in how to access discounts, tax benefits, social programs, veterans’ benefits, and many other services. We can guide aging adults through the benefits cataloged on The National Council on Aging’s BenefitsCheckUp site, and more.

Budget and Personal Expense Management

Our trained and certified counselors can work with aging adults to create a livable budget that can lower the anxiety about living within a fixed income. Our counselors can connect aging adults to community resources and ease financial stress.

Credit Counseling

Credit card debt and medical bills can accumulate quickly for aging adults trying to make ends meet. Our trained and certified counselors can negotiate with creditors to reduce payments or establish a debt management plan.

Financial Fraud Awareness Workshops for seniors

Aging adults can be more vulnerable to financial fraud and are often targeted by financial scammers. Senior Financial Care® maintains up-to-date information on the latest scams and can counsel seniors on how to identify and avoid becoming victims of fraud. Call to request a workshop for a church, club, or other group.

Options Counseling

Our certified Options Counselors provide one-on-one guidance to individuals as they make informed decisions about long-term services and supports. The certified Options Counselors help individuals develop a plan that fits their specific needs and encourages them to use community connections that are essential for a good quality of life. The counselor can also assist with making an Action Plan for the individual to implement. For more information about this program, please call (336)896-1328.

Resource Connection and Service Referral

Our trained and certified counselors keep up-to-date on the programs and resources available to aging adults locally, state-wide, and nationally.

For instance, we maintain a directory of housing options for seniors 55 and older. We can help review available information and explain typical cost structures and payment options.

We also can refer seniors to an array of resources for many financial, personal, and health issues, from veterans’ benefits, meal supplements, and in-home aid, to transportation, adult day care, and more.
